The perfect natural conditions produce an ideal surfing coast, which has tempted surfers from all over the world to visit Watergate bay and its surrounding beaches and try out the waves. As such, newquay, 5 miles south is now widely regarded as the surf capital of the UK and hosts the National Surfing Championships every year on Fistral Beach. Watergate hosts an outdoor music weekend to coincide with the newquay boardriders surf contest.
As well as surfing, Watergate is the location of Jamie olivers 15 restraunt, the extreme academy to try your hand at a multitude of outdoor activities. And now itv is screening echo beach, filmed on location at Watergate. The north cornwall coast paths runs south to newquay and north to mawgan porth beach and the rock outcrops of bedruthan steps. The picturesque port of Padstow and its range of places to eat, made famous by rick stein is 20 minutes drive away.
If nightlife is what you are after look no further than newquay, a 10 minute drive and home to many clubs and pubs.
